This is the Silvercode news archive area where old articles are kept for reference purposes. Normally these articles are at least 3-4 months old. Enjoy!

October 4, 2005 - Lots has been happening. Since Mona is now married her website can be accessed through www.monahitchcock.com as well as the old URL. The FOMS site is almost ready for prime time - here is a sneak peak at it. We have almost sealed the deal with Henderson, Ward, and Associates to re-design and host their website. We are also talking with 3 bands to maintain and host their websites much cheaper than their current plans.
Finally, there is the big change here at Silvercode - we are in the process of overhauling our own website. While the old design is still dear to our hearts, over the past year the company has shifted directions and the website needs to reflect these changes. We will announce when the changes are in place. In the meantime, keep checking back to see our progress.

September 6, 2005 - Another customer has signed on with us! This is a departmental website for Facility Operations and Maintenance Services (FOMS) of Algonquin College Physical Resources department. It is currently just in the test stages but has lots of functionality we will be happy to show you.

September 2, 2005 - Another company has signed on with us John Calder Consulting Inc. They are a documentation services company here in Ottawa. Check out their new website at www.johncalderconsulting.com.

June 25, 2005 - We will be closing the shop until July 10. This is to give everyone here at Silvercode a chance to enjoy some time off. I and my wife will be heading to New Brunswick. Since we will be gone, Happy Canada Day!

May 28, 2005 - This has been the month of weddings. That means time has been divided lately. Starting to think we should specialize in wedding websties like this one. If you know anyone who is looking for a wedding website, point them in our direction! In spite of these we have been bidding on lots of contracts this month and have more coming up.

March 2, 2005 - Changed web host providers. There was a spoofing attack using one of the domains and the hoster was really huffy about it. On the bright side we were able to switch quickly, but there may be a few things missing while all the sites are set up again. If you notice anything missing, please contact Silvercode.

Dec 10, 2004 - A new site has been added to the Silvercode client list: mnd.silvercode.net otherwise known as Mona and Dave's Wedding website. It includes everything from a count down timer to the happy day (which should work afterwards as well), pictures of everyone involved, registry info, and other information.

July 6, 2004 - Watch for more of a focus on graphical and animated websites. Silvercode has purchased new cutting edge software that enables eye catching graphics and animations. Not that we were chopped liver before.

June 28, 2004 - Silvercode is officially accepting payment through Paypal, check, or money orders. Online credit card processing will be coming soon, but for now PayPal allows you to pay with your credit card, US bank account, or Canadian bank account.

June 16, 2004 - Silvercode is now hosting websites! Even if have a complete website, Silvercode can almost definately host it for less money than you are paying now. Plus you will get more features than you are getting now! More on this in the next couple days.

June 3, 2004 - The website will be undergoing some 'house cleaning'. Paperstorm has been telling us for a while now to fix a few things with our website to make it clearer and more effective for you the customer. Over the next few weeks small changes will be taking place that will make the Silvercode website better for you. Check back frequently to watch the progress!

April 2, 2004 - Silvercode will likely be hosting an armour website shortly! More on that as it develops. New business cards are hot off the presses (click here), and we are looking at expanding to accomodate all this new work. So if you think you have what it takes to be a Silver coder, drop us a line and we take a look at you.

March 22, 2004 - Our friends at Paper Storm are busy completing a number of projects since the last posting, including various crucial business documents. We have secured other contracts ourselves and are just clsoing the deals - a website to promote a local author, and a Toronto website to name a couple. On the hardware side, we have been fixing and upgrading computers for a local kindergarden class (those kids are fun!). It seems people are getting the wireless bug - we have installed a couple personal wireless networks in the last few weeks. Drop us an email if you want to hop on the bandwagon. That is a more regular interval.

March 1, 2004 - Things have been really busy since January! We have designed 3 new sites: www.monabrathwaite.com and www.davidhitchcock.net. The third site is not posted yet: www.millionmonkeys.ca revamping - they liked Paper Storm's business card so well ( click here) they want a new website based on it! All of this is in addition to our ongoing work with The Discount Depot. They have more than tripled the number of supporting businesses and the CITY PASS cards are in the hands of fundraisers! Look out Ottawa and Toronto! Silvercode has been approached about designing a city councellor's website but that negotiation is still in the works. Hopefully it won't be this long before the next posting.

January 31, 2004 - Ottawa Eguide is getting a new look for its reviews. This will make it easier to scan them quickly. The Discount Depot is getting a lot of interest from local businesses and fundraising groups! Soon it will expand into other cities. If you are writing, or making your own website (something you shouldn't do!) check out Paper Storm's page of tips.
A hearty thanks goes out to Paper Storm for designing some really nice business cards for us here at Silvercode. You have to check out our card!

January 13, 2004 - We have been working with Paper Storm since mid-December on the emerging The Discount Depot website. They are a new company focused on helping charities raise money. Also over the holiday season we did work ( fix computers, install hardware, etc) for a few less fortunate families - something we try to do every year.

October 20, 2003 - Since partnering with us, Paper Storm has been really busy. So busy in fact, they haven't had a chance to get their own website content written down. Their professional experience in designing forms and invoices, audience analysis, and editing have proven invaluable. Our customers have been more than satisfied with their concise, professional results. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Paper Storm.

October 2, 2003 - Oberdicta.com is its own domain - things are moving up! At the same time Million Monkeys.ca and Paper Storm.ca were registered. Million Monkeys is going to be a fun site for development and generally geeky things. Paper Storm is a fledgling technical communications company looking for a good web presence. Naturally they came to Silvercode!

September 15, 2003 - I have been working on a new site called Oberdicta (latin for 'By the way'). It is going to be a blog site with political philosophy content. A basic version is up and working, and the layout my look a bit familiar to you..

August 2, 2003 - I trust everyone is enjoying the long weekend. This is just a heads up that we have designed another website that is up and running - The Ottawa Fantasy Football League. Its a local miniature gaming league that plays Bloodbowl. Its a cross between football and rugby using fairy tale creatures for teams - elves, dwarves, zombies, skeletons, halflings, etc. You're welcome to check out a gaming night and enjoy the fun!
The Ottawa Eguide is getting things back in shape. I agree with them that the 2 best movies of the summer so far have been X2 (X-men 2) and Pirates of the Caribbean.

July 20, 2003 - The Silvercode site has a new look! It is worth the hours spent on the graphics, layout, and updated content. Tell your friends to check us out.

July 17, 2003 - The Ottawa Eguide has received their long awaited face lift. Finally they can settle down and start repopulating their reviews. Check them out and give them a hand if you can.
We are in discussions over graphics with CYOA - we both agree they need them, but there are other points to work out. Keep watching their site to see the results!

June 26, 2003 - We're working on an administration interface that will be easy for anyone to use to change their content by themselves. This product will be in development for a while but we'll keep you posted on its progress and even give you a sneak peak or two!

May 20, 2003 - Not much new here in the last couple weeks. But one of our sites, CYOA has started on a new story you should check out. Its called Red Dragon Rescue. And there are more on their way. You should also check out kellyandpaul.com as some of their pictures were just posted in gallery.

May 5, 2003 - We are renewing the Silvercode domain name. If there are/were any problems accessing this site we apologize, and would like you to let the webmaster know about it.
In a couple short days you will see some new things on the Eguide website. The automated interface for adding reviews is in the testing phase and will enable lots more reviews to be posted for your use.

April 24, 2003 - We are now including admin sections with each website we setup. That way the owner of the site can make changes to it without us doing all the work at professional costs.

April 15, 2003 - Things are still changing around here. Today we did a bit of spring cleaning. It should make updates faster, and easier. Admin pages for each site are under design currently, soon to be implemented.

April 2, 2003 - You may notice some changes in the downloads section. Those are in anticipation of more projects to be made available to you. And since you use lots of OSes, we are posting the projects in those OSes for you to use without having to recompile them. Right now we will be focusing on Red Hat Linux, QNX Neutrino 6.x, and Windows. And even though its not up and working yet, you might want to check out the Choose Your Own Adventure website thats coming soon.

March 26, 2003 - There are some big changes in the works. You will notice the websites we do changing drasticly. The addition of graphics, and actions will make for more interesting websites. However, during the changeover there will be some bad links, and some text that doesn't make any sense. If you see this, please email the webmaster so we can get it back to working order as soon as possible. Enjoy!

March 22, 2003 - The editor [CEO] had his birthday last weekend and fun was had by all. Kellyandpaul.com has been doing great, and they are very happy with things as they prepare for their big day. Fishbeak had its launch and is doing well, but will be having some big improvements coming soon. More on that as it happens. The projects in the download section will be added to and updated over the next couple months. And lastly - this website has/is/will be having a major facelift, so if you have suggestions or comments about the layout or design please let us know.

February 16, 2003 - The Silvercode website is now being hosted by Fishbeak. The work we have done on KellyandPaul.com can now be seen - check it out to see what those two rascals have planned for their happy day in May. There have been some recent updates to the Necron and Dwarf pages. Soon there will be additional downloads, and PHP scripts to run from this website. And less than a month until the big guy's birthday!

February 14, 2003 - Fishbeak.com is ready for prime time. In the last couple weeks, those guys have been working night and day to find and squash all the little bugs in their code. Now they have a slick, tight system for hosting websites. Everything is automated, even hosting email and registering your domain name! Their real innovation is the pricing system. Most other ISPs who force a plan on you that includes things you'll never use, but you have to pay for. Not so at Fishbeak - you pay a VERY minimal monthly hosting fee, and then you pay for the bandwidth and space you use - billed by the minute. So if you get slashdotted for 1 hour, you'll pay a little more for it but only for the time you use it. Check it out, they do a much better job of explaining than I do!

February 4, 2003< - We are in the process of moving Silvercode over to be hosted by Fishbeak. Had some fun with my old DNS server, and the company I registered my domain name with, but that is taken care of. Things should steadily keep improving on the site as I find and fix things broke in the move. If you find anything let me know. Send me email please. Enjoy the new and improved site!

January 19, 2002 - Getting ready to move the Silvercode website over to be hosted by FISHBEAK. It will be easier for us to keep things updated, and allow the other sub-sites the same ease of use. You might want to check out the sub-sites as they have all been updated recently.

December 11, 2002 - Things are getting busy with the Christmas season. Fishbeak has a launch date. Check out the website and get ready to be blown away! This is great stuff. Very reasonable rates to build a professional commercial website, host a website, and more.
An update on that pinball project: the playfield is playable. Getting close!

If there's no other post before Christmas, we here at Silvercode wish you all the best of the season and on into the new year.

November 20, 2002 - Fishbeak is very close to its professional launch now. The guys over there create professional websites including all the little gadgets and gizmos that make it fun to have a website including online purchasing! Written 99% in PHP (the other 1% is Perl and C++).
Corey, the head of Fishbeak, has been working on another project that is going public in December - he will be a father. He has all our best wishes on this new adventure.
An old coworker of Dave's is working on building a pinball game. The design is from the guy who drew Danger Girl comics! Check out his website, but be nice - its hosted on someone's home computer. nerd.technomancer.com.

September 29, 2002 - I haven't posted in a while so here you go. I've been busy with work for the last few weeks, and I've been considering moving this site to a more professionally run provider - anyone. Next on my todo list is to get the Eguide sit up and running properly. That will be using an SQL database and PHP pages to access the movie info.

August 21, 2002 - Ok. The proper website is www.kellyandpaul.com and its not up and working yet. Shortly though, shortly! I am in the process of getting the Warhammer and 40k figure pictures up on the website. Borrowed cameras are never as easy as they should be.. When they are up, painting sections will be added to the respective websites.

August 11, 2002 - Habitat for Humanity is building their houses this week. Help out if you can, its a good cause - they build houses for poor families and give them an interest free mortgage to pay it back. All the work is volunteers, and I think the materials are donated.
There is an Eguide again! Not much of one, but its there. I also added the file links to the download section. I haven't tested them all but the .zip's do work. If its not an archive you might have to right click and do a "Save Target As". The Paul & Kelly link is not the right one, I'll have to get on that.

August 2, 2002 - The download links should now be working. I even added some new small projects to the list - an interst calculator, and projEsti - a programming project estimation tool. The sidebar links all work except eguide still takes you The subdomains all go to a page except the eguide. It takes you to a blank site for now. I'm working on a fully interactive PHP site for Eguide so it may take a while to get up and going but will be great when it does!

July 23, 2002 - Updating the website made me realise that some of the links aren't working. The download links to be exact, as well as some of the links on the sidebar to subdomains. The subdomains all go to a page except the eguide. I'm working on them and will post here when they are working again.

Just found out about a cool website I'll be advising on that you should check out: www.paulandkelly.com . They are getting married next May.

June 25, 2002 - New website up and mostly going! Updated and extended from the previous website. During the transition period it was simply a link to the Ottawa Eguide website which we sponsor. Now we're back to all the proper topics - software development. There will be another transition hopefully in the near future once I get the Linux server configured. Then we'll be cooking with PHP! So have a look around the site, and let me know what you think.

June 4, 2002 - Silvercode moved! We were previously located at 210 Woodridge Crescent Suite #605 and are now located at 138C Woodridge Crescent. Part of the downtime on the website has been due to this. However, Rogers cable provides the connection for us and really messed up the move. It was supposed to be hooked up on the 1st but they never showed up. Then when it was moved over, they had set up an entirely new account deleting all my webpage content. Yup, 3 years of movie reviews gone in a blink of an eye. Things are mostly back to normal now.

March 20002 - You might have noticed the change around now from a fully functional website to a gateway to Dave's Ottawa Eguide. This is mainly due to a lack of time to support the Silvercode site in tandem with a slow period in business. Also this was when I [Dave] unofficially started subcontracting with Fishbeak to develop modular PHP code for professional websites. [June 2002: This project has been put on hold as the main contributor will be a father in the near future.]
