I had to post this for you guys to see - http://geekadelphia.com/2008/09/05/star-wars-bento-lunches-taste-like-science-fiction/

This is a link to a couple of Star Wars themed bentos. They are super awesome!

This is the kind of thing I aspire to, but never seem to have the time to plan and make.

If any readers have their own creations like this, post them here, or drop me a line and I’ll link to them for you!

Almost bento… for supper!

Friday, January 25th, 2008

This week the family has been sick, so nothign much has been getting done.

Last night my wife and I met some friends at a local sushi buffet. Thats right unlimited sushi.

I describe it as japanese dim sum because they bring it right to your table, and there are salads, noodle and rice dishes, and terriyaki meat as well as sushi, sashimi, maki, and so on.

1000 islands of sushi is on Carling at Clyde in Ottawa and is fairly new. Like the other sushi buffets that have started up, their all you can eat dinner price is not cheap, but great for what you get at $21 on week nights.  The food is made fresh where possible when you order (salad, sushi, steak thrown on the grill, etc.) so its not instant service, but its really fast. Getting the right amounts of something was a bit tricky - we had a good laugh when we got 1 tempura mushroom in a basket.

Because you can order anything from seaweed salad, to steak, to curry chicken on rice to sushi this is a great place to take a group with mixed tastes. But you must bring your appetite. If not, you can order one or two dishes like at a normal restaurant, but its more fun to sample many things.

We will be going back there shortly, let me tell you!

Bento #7 - Lunch plus

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Here is today’s selection. I found the camera so we’re back to good quality photos again.

Bento #7

The bottom is broccoli and General Tao’s chicken. As you can tell I really like the chicken. I debated filling a whole layer with it!

The top is baby bok choy with one piece of broccoli, some fried rice, and a BBQ pork bun. I have to remember not to put the buns in the top layer as they don’t fit well. I lined the box layers with waxed paper so I could easily lift it all out and heat it up if I wanted to - its much tastier served hot.
As you can likely tell by this point this is day #2 of leftovers and Yum Yum! There might be more tomorrow still :-)
The surprise above lunch is my Japanese smart candy! When I ordered the bento box, I got a couple packages of this candy because it sounded neat. The box is really funny with all the action comic poses and so on. The candys are like little hard grape gummy bells coated in sour powder. They are kinda nice to munch on in the afternoon, so I’m onto my 2nd box already. If you are interested, contact me and I can give you the info to order them.
