Where oh where did the leafy greens go?

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I’ve been going over lots of ideas for fun lunches lately - I’ve been inspired by all this new gear I got!

But I never seem to have the veggies and stuff I want at home when I want it. I’m considering getting a veggie delivery service. There are some local farms that will drop off a basket of veggies weekly to your house! The veggies will be seasonal but include greens and onions and staples as well.

I’d still have to go shopping for specialty stuff, but this would make sure I have the basics at home to make something. Plus with my wife on mat leave, there’d be someone home to put them away on delivery.

I think I’ll check them out this weekend at the farmer’s market and see what their prices are like. It will sure beat (beet?) weeding the garden all summer, even if it means more grass to cut!

The goal has been set

Friday, January 4th, 2008

When I started my bento-ing and this blog it was partly with the intention to eat better, and lose a bit of weight.

I have started to make my weight more of a prority now. Diets are bad, but its good to aim for a better balance in what you eat. For example I don’t eat enough fibre, and i eat too many starchy carbs and not enough good natural carbs.

I set a modest weight goal for when my second child will be born, and hopefully I will surpass it. I want to have more energy by then - I’m sure I’ll need it!

You wont be seeing much more about this, but I will comment when I hit big goals along the way.

Have a good weekend!

More recipes!

I just got my order from Amazon.ca - only took 2 days to get here! They are a book on dim sum (ISBN 978-4-88996-226-D), and one on Japanese pickles (ISBN 488996181X). These books have easy to follow recipes, and great color pictures of the foods!

I now have a bento book, a hana sushi (flower or fancy suishi) book, and these two. I’ll have to go through and find which ingredients I can find locally here and then get to work experimenting!

I likely won’t be posting regularly over the holidays as I will be out of town. I’ll still try to get a couple posts in at least, more if I get some neat cooking done! Those bento recipes look really tasty!

I hope you all have a good Christmas, and you get everything you deserve .. er .. want! :-)

After a hiatus.. bento is back on!

First let me apologize for my non-posting lately. A bout of sickness at home, followed by catching up at work has swamped me.

This is about to change… if I can find my camera. I will be posting my lunch today, but it might be photo-less.

stay tuned!

[edit: I changed the title of this article - it was a bit misleading since we are not offering any prizes for reading this blog apart from the juicy tidbits offered within the articles themselves. ]

There will be no bento post today! My daughter has been up sick for the last few nights and I’m really tired. So I didn’t make lunch today. I had Cambodian instead - very tasty.

But enough about me, and on to Paul! Thanks for the words Paul! Keep checking back - I will be posting nearly every weekday.

When I don’t post lunches, I’ll be posting tips, tools, bento boxes, or other bento related articles.

Send me pictures and descriptions of your lunches! I’ll post them for everyone to enjoy!
